Do I have to WRITE CODE for this to work?
Not at all! If you’re using WordPress, PDF Ink works just like any other plugin. You can easily configure your watermark placements and security settings through the administration panel—no coding required! If you want to customize beyond the available settings, PDF Ink is ready for that too, with plenty of hooks available. Check out our blog for examples of how others have extended PDF Ink, and feel free to reach out with any questions about your specific project!
Do I have to BUY SOMETHING ELSE TOO, FOR this to work?
Most likely, one of the open-source libraries included with PDF Ink will handle your PDF files seamlessly.
If you need additional functionality, you can upgrade PDF Ink to manage any PDF by adding either FPDI PDF-Parser or SetaPDF-Stamper (available for separate purchase – and we’ll provide a discount).
Do I have to use [ WordPress | WooCommerce | Download Monitor | Easy Digital Downloads ] for this to work?
Nope! PDF Ink is also a standalone PHP drop-in for those who want to work with FPDI, FPDI-PDF Parser, FPDF, TCPDF, and SetaPDF-Stamper.
However, if you’re using one of those e-commerce solutions, that’s fantastic! PDF Ink can easily watermark or stamp PDFs sold through WordPress e-commerce plugins. It activates when a file download link is clicked, pulling custom watermarking data from the checkout form, such as customer name, email, and phone number.
If you’re using WordPress but not WooCommerce, Download Monitor, or Easy Digital Downloads, don’t worry! PDF Ink also features a shortcode system that allows you to build PDF download links into your workflow. These links are encrypted and password-protected, ensuring your documents are secure while being stamped as needed.
Will PDF Ink preserve internal links such as Table of Contents and bookmarks?
Yes, you can! However, this feature is available only when used with SetaPDF-Stamper (available for separate purchase). The free, open-source parsing libraries utilized by PDF Ink—and those used by our competitors—are unable to recognize advanced PDF features.

Will PDF Ink watermark images?
PDF Ink is designed to watermark PDF (.pdf) files. If you’re looking to watermark image files (.jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .png, etc.), you might want to check out a WordPress plugin like Image Watermark.
That said, you can easily place transparent (or opaque) images on your PDFs! Just include the path to your image in the PDF Ink settings, or add an <img> tag pointing to a JPG, GIF, or PNG in your HTML watermark content. You can find more details about this feature here: PDF Ink Documentation.
Does PDF Ink work for ePub/Mobi files or .XYZ (not .PDF)?
No, PDF Ink stamps PDF (.pdf) file types only at the moment.
EPUB support coming in June 2025!
As an aside – if your PDF files are contained in ZIP archives, PDF Ink can open the archive and mark the nested PDFs.
